Advent calendars for kids
Advent calendars sometimes cross into "more junk around the house" territory for me. These are calendars that give year-round use and open-ended play. They're great for starting or expanding a play collection. We've had these, or versions of them, over the years.

If you have a cars kid
Hot Wheels 2026 Advent Calendar
We did the hot wheels advent a few years ago and it's great for a cars kid. Some of the days are lackluster, but it's a great way to start (or grow) the car collection. You might get lucky with a black friday deal, but not likely.

Magna-Tiles microMAGS Advent Calendar
this pretty much never goes on sale, but I'm a sucker for magnatiles. I wish they sold it as a set instead of a calendar!

If they collect Little People
Fisher-Price Little People Barbie Advent Calendar
Little People seems to only have co-branded Barbie & Disney advents this year. Another great way to build up a collection for way cheaper than the individuals. Note: These aren't the same plastic as individuals. They're a bit smaller too.
